Tea-preciation and Thanksgiving with Cured Leaves Tea Co.

This time of year is one of our favorites. It’s one of the main times of year when we get to take a break from the everyday and spend some quality time with family and friends around a delicious meal.

In addition to making beautiful new memories, Thanksgiving is also a great time to, well, give thanks! Gratitude is a simple but powerful sentiment that can transform our lives, especially during seasons like Thanksgiving when we are prompted to reflect on what we appreciate most.

One such joy is the humble cup of tea, a drink that, despite its simplicity, has the extraordinary ability to comfort, soothe, and bring people together. Like gratitude, tea comes in many varieties, each with its unique flavor and story, providing a moment to pause and reflect on our lives.

We use tea in our daily lives to nourish our minds, bodies, and souls, but tea also is an excellent addition to the Thanksgiving menu. Where some people like to pair wine with their meals, we find tea pairings can inspire and enhance the traditional Thanksgiving meal. Let’s explore a few key combinations that will delight and surprise, and maybe make some new traditions!

A Tea Cocktail for Appetizers & Finger Foods

If you’re starting with some light appetizers, you may want to consider crafting a tea cocktail. Things like bread and cheese, or spreads like hummus, go great with a light, refreshing Arnold Palmer, which mixes iced tea with lemonade. You can make it non-alcoholic, or add in a little vodka to get the party started.

Another idea is to serve tea shots to go along with heavier appetizers,  such as melon wrapped in prosciutto or stuff mushrooms. Any dark, robust black tea works well here, such as Kenyan Gold.

The Main Course

Most people will serve turkey for their main course, but of course, not everyone eats meat. Whether you’re roasting a bird or making some a plant-based savory main dish, you want a tea pairing that will match the meal’s richness. For this, we recommend the East African Current, which offers a blend of tart, earthy, and sweet flavors, which work perfectly against some of the stronger flavors of roast meat or other luxuriant plant-based dishes.

A Sweet and Spicy Finish

What’s Thanksgiving without dessert? Lots of people love to serve apple or pumpkin pie for dessert, both of which lend themselves extremely well to tea pairings. You could go with a Spicy Black Chai if you want to match some of those fall spice flavorings. But you might want something lighter to counter-balance the heaviness of a decadent dessert. If that’s more your style, try our White Passion Peach or Zomba Pearls, both white teas with delicate, floral flavorings.

Maybe you’re looking for something lighter, an herbal tea is always good. Especially to help digestion after a big, heavy meal. If that’s the case, Quietude is exactly what you want. With a blend of chamomile, valerian root, lavender, and calendula, this tea is the ideal drink to relax you and send you off to dreamland with calming, sweet memories of the time you’ve spent with your loved ones.

In this season of gratitude, let’s not only give thanks for the important aspects of our lives but also for the small, everyday joys that bring comfort and happiness. A cup of tea, shared with loved ones, is a perfect reminder that sometimes the simplest things are the most meaningful.

By incorporating tea into your Thanksgiving celebration, you can create moments of connection and appreciation, enhancing the spirit of the holiday and making it even more memorable. Cheers to gratitude and the timeless pleasure of a good cup of tea.
